My favorite: Walk around during cherry blossoms, science museums, or see panda at Ueno Zoo

This is where I grew up. The Park offers many things and also connecting Ugusudani station to Ueno Station. What I really love is to just walk around during cherry blossom timing in April or visiting during Fall when leaves turn red. I have also taken my kids to Ueno Zoo and Science Museums. We had so much fun for both places. You should make sure to spend 1 day for each location. From the park, you can also go to Ueno city area for shopping and dining as well. There is also a pond called "shinobazu no ike" where you can just enjoy the scenery or rent a boat to enjoy the ride on the water.

Yoshi Sushi (よし寿司）| Ueno

Good sushi doesn’t always need to be expensive or intimidating. Yoshi Sushi is an easygoing Ueno spot I like for quality sushi with family and friends.

Yabusoba Ueno | Authentic Tokyo-Style Soba

This is the soba I grew up with. Handmade Tokyo-style soba in Ueno, owned by my grade-school friend and still one of my favorites.

Hinoya (ヒノヤ) | Japanese Denim in Ueno

Ueno has a long connection with American casual style. Hinoya is one of my favorite places to see that history through Japanese denim.

Sushikou (寿司幸) | Casual Sushi in Ueno

One of the first sushi restaurants I felt comfortable visiting on my own. Sit at the counter, talk to the chef and definitely try the negitoro.

Torie (鳥恵) | Yakitori in Ueno

Great chicken, yakitori, sake and oyakodon to finish. This is one of my favorite ways to spend an evening around Ueno.

Nakata Shoten (中田商店) | Ueno

Military jackets, MA-1s, camouflage and classic Americana. Nakata Shoten is part of the wonderfully chaotic shopping culture around Ueno.

Daitouryo (大統領) | Ueno

Beer, nikomi, skewers and seats under the train tracks. Daitouryo is one of those places where Ueno feels completely like Ueno.

Yamashiroya (ヤマシロヤ) | Ueno Toy Store

Small space, tons of stuff, locals and tourists all mixed together—Yamashiroya is wonderfully chaotic and, to me, very Ueno.

HOURAIYA（蓬莱屋) | Ueno

An old-school tonkatsu restaurant that has been part of Ueno for generations. Come here for the specialty: tender hirekatsu with a light, crisp coating.
